This happened Tuesday May 24 less than a mile from my house.

2 suspected burglars shot inside home
An Ellis County man shot two burglary suspects in his son's
house in the 2800 block of FM85 near Ennis
shortly after noon Tuesday, officials said.
One of the suspects was dead at the scene
and the other was in surgery hours later at a Dallas hospital.
His condition was unavailable.
Ellis County Sheriff's Department spokesman Lt. James Saulter
said a neighbor saw the two men knock on the front door
of the single-family home, then drive around back.
Suspicious, the neighbor called the homeowner's
father, who lives next door to his son and was on his way home.
The homeowner's father, who Saulter said has a concealed handgun license,
confronted the two men inside his son's home, where they were in the process
of carrying some of his son's guns toward the back door.
The homeowner's father called 911 after the shooting.
Saulter did not identify any of the men involved in the incident, pending
notification of next of kin.

This happens all too often in our neck of the woods,
it's remote and criminals know you're most likely at work.
I've been burgled at two different residences and let me tell you, it feels awful!
We do have the Castle Law but...
I don't know about killing someone over possessions.
Then again, I wasn't there, maybe the criminals had their own guns!
These Texans do seem to love their guns.

I would have called 911 and waited for the police to arrive. No sense in anyone getting killed over material things.
we dont carry guns in NZ. have to have a firearms licience for sport and guns have to be in a listed lock up. our police dont carry guns either unless under special circumstances. Id just ring the cops let them do their job. here i think the father would get charged with manslaughter at least if not murder.
I, too, wouldn't shoot someone over my possessions. After all, it's just stuff, and stuff can be replaced. I would; however, shoot someone if there was a choice between my life or theirs. I say I would, but if it really came to that - I don't know what I would do, at all. I am a peaceful person, in tune with God, and prepared to follow the instruction in the moment. I rely on that sense of "knowing" and believe I would be led to do what was right...to quote a modern guru..."I don't serve a God who values any one life over another" (Lady Gaga, May, 2011).
I know, it's weird I would quote Gaga (weird to all my contemporaries), but her message is amazing!
Calling the sheriff would have been my first response also, but....
Ellis County is quite large, the deputies are few and the response time? Sometimes quite slow.
Maybe call the sheriff, shoot out the criminals tires and wait?
