DIY End Table Redo/Staples And Glue



New To Me, And Improved!

Are you still grossed out from yesterday’s post?

Maybe I should hold off on the jello recipe?

Ok then….

I was out with the Daughter and grand-daughter

thrifting a few months back and ran across

this end table.

Not so pretty when I found it!

"The guy" thought it was worth $15.00.

He says, it's a Broyhill, that's good furniture.

I'm looking at the construction, staples and glue.

Good furniture is dovetailed, not staples and glue.

But I needed a table.

$15.00 I say, look, it's all scratched up and

the drawer doesn't even open, it looks like

someone glued it shut.

 He beats on the bottom of the drawer

trying to free it up, yanks at the knob a few times till he finally

pulls the knob completely off. Oh look, now you've broken it I say.
I said a lot of other things, just cant remember what.

(He did get the drawer free though).

By this time he's sweating and I'm pretty sure

he wants to get rid of me, so he says,

$7.00

So, now I'm the proud owner of staples and glue.



Potential Firewood?

I brought it in the house, (hubby just rolls his eyes)

thinking I'll eventually get to it.

Eventually is here, and I got to it!

I sanded the top (broke the sander in the process)

to give the paint something to stick to,

got out my paints and started mixing colors.



Custom Colors



Didn't like the first color on the legs, it was too close to the main body color
so I lightened up the paint a bit and repainted using a dry brush technique.

Much better!!!.

I wanted a third color for the drawer so I added some blue paint
to the darker pink color and got a dirty lavender tone.
Looks good.
The top I painted well, several colors,
didn't like any, so I finally decided to marble it.

Not too bad!!!!

Knob got lost en-route,

but I found this medallion in the hubby's stash, (spray painted it)

 had a large holed, pink bead and a small nut and bolt thingy....

Viola, new knob!

 

I even had time to re-do a chair!

Need to help the grand-daughter with her coffee table re-do.

What say ye?

Rose

SO....

I'm still at the sewing machine, (I love my sewing machine)

but this time I'm making dolls.

I think handmade dolls are cool. 

 On the one hand you have the mass produced dolls,

bland with no personality, all the same faces, clothes, and they smell funny...

On the other hand you can use one doll pattern and come up with

so many variations of handmade dolls, no two look alike.

And who says the body has to be a plain muslin fabric?

Why not black, or brown, or in this case yellow with flowers?

Scan the pattern to vary the finished size, use crazy yarn for the hair,

tiny roses for the eyes and mouth....

The possibilities are endless!

So, here we have it, or should I say her?

Her clothes



Her skirt was a blouse that I picked up at the thrift store.
I really liked the pin tucking and thought I might use the piece for a bag.
Rose had other ideas!
Her eyes and mouth are little roses, and, as you can see,

her hair is a flaming red!

Once I had her body finished she pretty much told me
how she wanted to be dressed and how she wanted her hair done.

My husband said she looks like she has a Port-wine stain.  

 (flat purple-to-red birthmarks made of dilated blood capillaries.

These birthmarks occur most often on the face and may vary in size.

Port-wine stains often are permanent (unless treated).

That never even crossed my mind as I was laying out the pattern pieces.
I chose to put that flower there.
Perhaps the powers that be directed my hands in anticipation
of a little girl with the same birthmark finding Rose.
And if that occurs I'll give her Rose.

Miss Ivy

I sold Miss Ivy at my last show to a middle aged woman,
I'm just saying....

Well, my sewing machine is calling....
Who cares if the grass is knee high and the floors are full of dog hair!
I need to create.

Blogger is underlining things and generally not doing as I command.
So.... I'm just gonna hope for the best and go with it!

No Turkey Day Just Yet!!

Well...

Our family Thanksgiving will be on Sunday at Steve's Mom's house.

SO...

I took the free day to ready for our last show of the season,

get the newest Boutique order together

and also to work on handmade Christmas gifts.

I have a lot of ideas for cookie/ brownie/ biscotti mixes in a jar,

chocolate coated pretzels, handmade candy, flavored coffee creamer etc.

Also sewing up a few things.

First up,

for the show,

mini, reversible stockings, free with a $25.00 purchase.



To be used in place of a gift bag.

Drew the template on computer paper and got into my fabric stash.

 Each stocking took about 1/4 yard of fabric per side,

Time to tuck one into the other.

Found this cool wire mesh basket in a thrift shop.

A little spray paint made it good as new!

 I plan on putting a loaf of home made sweet bread in it.

Maybe put a cloth napkin first, then the bread, then tie with a ribbon or two?

Mini soaps.

Half size bars that are encased in a cello bag.

I market these as stocking stuffers at Christmas.

In the spring they become camping/travel bars.
