Vintage Chair Refashion

Look at that beautiful sky.
 SO...

This is a chair that I've had for so long I can't
even remember where or when I got her!
I'm sure I only paid $5.00 max,
because,
that's my limit on chairs, really.
(I am so cheap).

It's been green, white, red.....

Lately it's been residing on the workstation side of the deck
waiting for a redo.
As long as I had the paint out  for the end table redo, why not tackle her too?
The last painting she had was red over green, the red needed a few more coats
and I just wasn't feeling it so she was pushed to the side.
Time to put her front and center.

Before
(Ignore all that stuff in the background).
Since the base was mostly red, and the paint I had out was
compatible, and the sponge was already loaded....

Monet inspired
The fabric for the seat is a dress I purchased at
a new flea market in Waxahachie for $2.50.
A 90's, gathered creation with lots of fabric.

Oh my!
Out with the old!
In with the new.

Finished
She now resides in my office/craft/sewing area,
replacing this chair that I found in the dumpster
at our old apartment, actually, I found two of them.

Donate or keep?
Don't know if I want to keep these chairs or not.

I still have a lot of the dress fabric left,
and this baby needs some clothes.....

Naked ARRANBEE baby.

And I did just purchase a vintage doll clothes pattern on Etsy!
Maybe a new wardrobe for the sweetie pie?

Stay tuned!

Till next time, happy everything.

Rose

SO....

I'm still at the sewing machine, (I love my sewing machine)
but this time I'm making dolls.

I think handmade dolls are cool.
On the one hand you have the mass produced dolls,
bland with no personality, all the same faces, clothes, and they smell funny...

On the other hand you can use one doll pattern and come up with
so many variations of handmade dolls, no two look alike.
And who says the body has to be a plain muslin fabric?
Why not black, or brown, or in this case yellow with flowers?
Scan the pattern to vary the finished size, use crazy yarn for the hair,
tiny roses for the eyes and mouth....
The possibilities are endless!

So, here we have it, or should I say her?
ROSE

Rose

Her clothes

Her skirt was a blouse that I picked up at the thrift store.
I really liked the pin tucking and thought I might use the piece for a bag.
Rose had other ideas!
Her eyes and mouth are little roses, and, as you can see,
her hair is a flaming red!
Once I had her body finished she pretty much told me
how she wanted to be dressed and how she wanted her hair done.

My husband said she looks like she has a Port-wine stain.
(flat purple-to-red birthmarks made of dilated blood capillaries.
These birthmarks occur most often on the face and may vary in size.
Port-wine stains often are permanent (unless treated).

That never even crossed my mind as I was laying out the pattern pieces.
I chose to put that flower there.
Perhaps the powers that be directed my hands in anticipation
of a little girl with the same birthmark finding Rose.
And if that occurs I'll give her Rose.

Miss Ivy
I sold Miss Ivy at my last show to a middle aged woman,
I'm just saying....

Well, my sewing machine is calling....
Who cares if the grass is knee high and the floors are full of dog hair!
I need to create.

Blogger is underlining things and generally not doing as I command.
So.... I'm just gonna hope for the best and go with it!

Till next time,

Thrifty Threads Features Moi!!!

SO....

I know I've been lax on the blogging but really,
this laptop is a royal pain.
I know it's not actually the laptops fault,
it only does what I tell it to do.
Apparently I am not giving the right commands, or,
my fingers are touching what they shouldn't!
The desktop is at the repair shop getting a makeover,
and I can't wait to get her back!!!!

Anyway....

I sent a photo of myself  in a thrifted outfit to
Angela Barton.com AKA Thrifty Threads.
Her blog is about non consumerism, recycling and generally being thrifty.
I hope you will click on over to her site and explore a bit, she is really an inspiration.
And as a bonus you'll get to see my thrifted outfit!!!
Ha Ha!!

Till next time,

Easter Sunday's Thrifted Hat

Well....

April in Texas.
High winds, tornadoes and thunder showers,
but the only thing we're getting are the high winds!
Needless to say the high winds affect my internet connection.
Meaning no internet...
My window of internet opportunity at work is slim with no picture uploading,
DRAT!

 BUT...
We have internet this evening so I shall try to post
before I get kicked off.

I found this hat at my local thrifty shop
a few weeks ago for $2.50

Plain Jane...
With a little ribbon, a button, some beads, a slide and cording...

It's now fab!
I applied the ribbon, attached the button,
then realized, it's windy here in the spring ...
You're gonna need something to keep it on your head....
DUH

OK,
I unattached the button so I could add  the cording and slide to keep it on my head,
then reattached the button.
A couple of beads knotted at the end of the cording and I was good to go!
Live And Learn...

Just perfect for our Easter Sunday picnic at the park...

Grandson Nathan, Grandaughter Lauren

I'll find those candy eggs!

Abby isn't telling.

Where's the crabby patties!!!

What's that in your pocket Lauren?

Ginger counting the loot!

Happy Easter!!!!

NINE WHOLE DAYS and A FIRE

WOO WEE....
Nine days, 9 whole days, in -a- row, FREE from the TASK MASTER!!! (AKA work)
Yep, don't have to go back until the 29th.

What to do, what to do?
There's that old screen door wanting to be up cycled,
The circa 1940's vanity begging for a re do,
The front door molding waiting for paint,
The pile of thrift store clothing hoping to be transformed,
The 1950ish drafting chair wishing for it's former glory,
The Etsy shop that really needs work,
The product that needs to be made before the next show,
........

Maybe I need to go back to work.
Naw, this is work I like to do.

~ As to the fire ~
I was replying to a comment  on The Super Nate Spice posted by Dave and I mentioned that Nathan is going to grill for me on Sunday. That reminded me about Nathan setting the front yard on fire. (Or as he claims, his evil twin did it.)
It was when he was about 5 or 6.
His mom and I were in the house doing who knows what, Nate was outside doing "who knew"!
He comes bursting through the front door yelling,
THE YARD'S ON FIRE, THE YARD'S ON FIRE!!!
We say, no way.
We were wrong!
Indeed, the yard was on fire.
Seems that Nate had watched a little too much Survivor.
(Hey, we thought it was a good idea at the time... Learn a few survival skills?)
We were wrong!
He insisted that he was running very fast and that the rocks he was carrying burst into flames when he fell.
(Flint perhaps?)
Really, I dare say?
Really, Grandma!
Uh huh!

By the time the Volunteer Fire Department got here we had things pretty much under control.
(Found the lighter a few days later under the Yucca plant.)
And that's why we let him grill, safer than a yard fire!
Don't even get me started on the neighbor setting my back yard on fire...
I kid you not!!

So, what project to start?

Till next time....
